Lithuanian U18 Women's Basketball Team Starts European Championship with Victory

The Lithuanian U18 women's basketball team has started the European Championship in Romania with a strong performance, defeating their Irish counterparts 58-47 in their opening Division B match.

Under the guidance of head coach Edvinas Justa, the Lithuanian squad secured a crucial win. Gabija Galvanauskaitė and Ugnė Viščinytė led the scoring for Lithuania, both contributing 11 points. Galvanauskaitė also showcased her all-around game by grabbing 10 rebounds, achieving a double-double.

The team's path forward includes matches against Estonia on Saturday and Luxembourg on Sunday. They will conclude the group stage against Austria on Tuesday. Only the top two teams from the group will advance to the next stage.

Lithuania's clear objective is to earn a promotion to the elite Division A of the FIBA European Championship for the following year. This aspiration requires them to secure at least a third-place finish in the current tournament. Coach Justa, who successfully led the U16 team to victory in Division B last summer, expressed confidence in his current squad. "We are going to take a prize-winning place and secure a spot in Division A for future generations," he stated. "No one knows how it will turn out, but we want to grow success through our consistent work. I believe in the players, the coaching staff, and the entire team."
