Lithuanian weather to be disrupted by Cyclone Karolina: squalls warned

Cyclone Karolina is set to bring a mixed bag of weather to Lithuania, starting with a brief period of warmth before ushering in rain and thunderstorms.

According to meteorologist Elvyra Latvėnaitė, a low-pressure system associated with Cyclone Karolina will move towards the Baltic region from the northwest on Monday. This will draw significantly warmer air into Lithuania, leading to a temporary temperature increase. However, by Monday evening, the western parts of the country will begin to experience rain as the cold atmospheric front arrives.

Tuesday is expected to be predominantly wet, with the possibility of a small cyclone forming near Lithuania. This system could bring widespread rain and thunderstorms as it travels across the country. While squalls are typically weaker at night, the daytime will see persistent, strong westerly to northwesterly winds, with intermittent rain and thunderstorms, particularly in the northern regions. Temperatures will drop significantly on Tuesday.

From Wednesday onwards, an anticyclone moving in from the west will bring drier and calmer weather. However, colder air from the north will influence the region, keeping temperatures cooler, especially at night. Current forecasts suggest that warmer weather will make a comeback for the upcoming holiday weekend.

With the eastern part of this valley, with southern air currents, significantly warmer air will flow on Monday, it will warm up considerably again, but only briefly. Because already on Monday evening, the clouds of the cold atmospheric front will reach the western regions and water them. Tuesday night will be rainy, as it is likely that the atmospheric front may 'ripple', a small cyclone may even spin up near us, which, while moving through Lithuania, will water everyone considerably, and thunder will rumble. Only at night, when it cools down, squalls are much weaker, so we are not expecting major weather disasters for now.
