Liu Ji-hong’s seventh homer seals Dragons’ 6-5 win over Brothers

Liu Ji-hong does not think he has a special knack for hitting the CTBC Brothers, even though four of his seven home runs this season have come against them. He said he simply followed coach Lin Chih-sheng’s instruction to attack boldly.

The Wei Chuan Dragons beat the Brothers 6-5 after Liu launched a go-ahead two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning. Dragons manager Yeh Chun-chang praised the hit, saying Liu had shown he could produce important balls at important moments, both for the club and for the national team.

Liu’s third, fourth, sixth and seventh home runs of the season have all come against the Brothers. They include a walk-off homer against Tsai Chi-che at the Taipei Dome on May 5 and another against Roki Sasaki on the same venue last month.

Reflecting on the decisive at-bat, Liu said runners had reached base earlier and Kai-Wei had driven in two runs. After the pitching change, Lin shared the strategy with the hitters: attack aggressively and avoid striking out. Liu also acknowledged that he had made a fielding error at third base in the fifth inning, which helped the Brothers score three runs. He said he had to leave the mistake behind and focus on the remaining innings.
