Live Rent-Free on a Greek Island by Caring for Cats

Animal lovers have a unique opportunity to live rent-free on the Greek island of Syros. The "Syros Cats" organization is seeking volunteers to care for abandoned cats, offering free accommodation and breakfast in exchange for a daily commitment.

The program is carried out on the island of Syros, one of the Cyclades islands, and volunteers must take care of the animals for six days a week.

Volunteers will dedicate five hours a day, six days a week, to tasks such as feeding and watering the cats, cleaning litter boxes, and disinfecting shelters. They will also interact with the animals, providing play and companionship. The organization covers basic utilities like water, electricity, and internet in the shared housing provided.

Registrations for the next volunteer period will open in September 2026, with the organization already preparing the program for 2027.

While the program covers accommodation and breakfast, volunteers must cover their own travel expenses to Greece and Syros, including ferry tickets. Meals other than breakfast, personal excursions, shopping, and island transportation are also at their own expense. International insurance is mandatory.

The main advantage of the program is free accommodation.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, fluent in English for communication with the team, and possess good physical condition for the daily work. Above all, a passion for animals and patience are essential requirements for this unique island experience.

Volunteers must pay for their own transport to Greece and to the island of Syros, including the ferry ticket.
