Liverpool close to signing Barcelona's Araujo on loan

Liverpool is reportedly nearing a deal to acquire Barcelona's Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo on a season-long loan. The potential transfer includes an option for the English club to make the move permanent.

Araujo, 27, is expected to join the Liverpool squad this weekend. He has been a key player for Barcelona, helping them secure three La Liga titles in the last four seasons and finishing last season as club captain. Despite a contract running until 2031, his playing time was limited last season, with Gerard Martin and Pau Cubarsi often preferred in central defense.

Since joining Barcelona from Uruguayan club Boston River in 2018, Araujo has made over 200 appearances for the Spanish giants. His potential arrival at Anfield comes as Liverpool seeks to bolster its defense after Ibrahima Konate's recent transfer to Real Madrid on a free transfer.

The move would provide Liverpool with experienced depth in central defense, a position that has seen some changes in the squad.
