Lizeth Bunshi's family demands speedier search in Quito

Family members and legal representatives of Lizeth Bunshi are urgently calling for a more robust investigation into her disappearance, which occurred 12 days ago in the Machángara River. Gathering outside the Provincial Prosecutor's Office in Quito, they expressed deep concern over what they perceive as a reduction in search personnel and a lack of urgency in the case.

Ricardo Bunshi, Lizeth's brother, stated that the search brigades have diminished since the initial days of the investigation. The family implored authorities to maintain the search as an absolute priority, emphasizing the need for continued and intensified efforts. Their plea comes as the official search was reportedly set to conclude on August 3rd.

Adding a technological dimension to the search, the family's legal defense has formally requested international penal assistance. This request seeks technical support to create a digital reconstruction of Lizeth's alleged fall into the Machángara River. The goal is to analyze the terrain, trajectory, and river's behavior using advanced technology to determine the technical feasibility of an accidental fall.

The family and their lawyer, Freddy Ron, have highlighted critical pending procedures, including gender context expertise, specialized canine operations, and further underwater inspections of unexplored river sections. They have also voiced strong criticisms regarding irregularities in the investigation, pointing to the discovery of a single shoe as one of the few significant pieces of evidence. Furthermore, they insist that the five individuals who were with Lizeth on the night of her disappearance should face formal charges, citing contradictions in their testimonies. Currently, only one individual is in preventive detention, while Lizeth's boyfriend, who claims he left her after an argument, has provided his statement.
