Quito Shuts Down Three Restaurants for Unsanitary Conditions and Cockroach Infestations

Health authorities in Quito have shut down three food establishments after discovering alarming levels of unsanitary conditions, including a widespread cockroach infestation. The closures were carried out by the National Agency for Regulation, Control, and Sanitary Surveillance (Arcsa).

Two of the affected businesses were located in the La Marín sector, with the third situated in Pomasquí. During their inspections, Arcsa officials documented significant accumulations of dirt and a pervasive presence of cockroaches in the kitchen areas. Images released by Arcsa clearly show the insects in close proximity to food storage and preparation zones.

Beyond the cockroach problem, the inspections also revealed dirty floors, leftover food debris, and products that were not in suitable condition for use. Arcsa highlighted the serious risk of cross-contamination, warning that such poor hygiene practices pose a grave danger to public health and food safety.

The three establishments will remain closed indefinitely until their owners undertake the required corrective measures and significantly improve their sanitary conditions. Arcsa's action aims to protect consumers and guarantee the safety of food served within the city.
