Lota Schwager Player Found Guilty of Drunk Driving Causing Death

Footballer Byron Hermosilla, currently playing for Lota Schwager, has been declared guilty of drunk driving that resulted in death. The verdict stems from a fatal accident in late 2023 that claimed the life of Isabella Belmar.

The Oral Criminal Court of Concepción rejected the charge of refusing an alcohol test and acquitted Hermosilla of simple homicide, a charge sought by the plaintiff. The fatal incident occurred on December 28, 2023, on Route 150, which connects the towns of Tomé and Penco.

At the time of the accident, Hermosilla was driving without a license and at excessive speed. He lost control of his pickup truck, causing it to overturn. Isabella Belmar, 20, who was a passenger in the vehicle, sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

Prosecutors are seeking a five-year prison sentence for Hermosilla, while his defense team has requested a sentence of three years and one day, to be served under intensive supervised liberty. The court is scheduled to read the final sentence on Saturday, August 8, at 12:00 PM.
