Lotte Group Donates 1 Billion Won to Flood-Damaged Gyeongsang Region, Focusing on Recovery Support

Lotte Group has stepped forward with a significant donation of 1 billion won (approximately $720,000 USD) to support recovery efforts in South Korea's Gyeongsang region, which has suffered extensive damage from unprecedented heavy rainfall. The aid is specifically directed towards major municipalities in the Yeongnam area, including Geoje and Tongyeong in Gyeongnam Province, and Andong and Uiseong in Gyeongbuk Province, regions that have borne the brunt of the recent flooding.

The substantial contribution will be channeled through the Community Chest of Korea to the Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association. This funding is earmarked for immediate disaster recovery operations at the affected sites and to provide essential daily necessities for individuals displaced and residing in temporary shelters. The swift action by Lotte Group aims to alleviate the immediate hardships faced by the victims of the devastating floods.

Beyond the monetary donation, Lotte Group has also mobilized its affiliates for on-site support. Lotte Mart, for instance, utilized its Geoje branch to distribute approximately 1,500 emergency relief items, such as cup noodles, beverages, and energy bars, directly to those impacted by the disaster. This hands-on approach ensures that immediate needs are met efficiently.

The company has a track record of supporting communities in crisis, having previously donated 1 billion won for wildfire recovery in the Yeongnam region last year and another 1 billion won during a period of widespread heavy rainfall.
