Lucas Bjerregaard Leads Danish Golf Championship After Strong First Round

Danish golfer Lucas Bjerregaard has made a strong start at the Danish Golf Championship, held at the Kerteminde course in Funen. The 34-year-old shot a first-round score of six under par, placing him in contention for the title on home soil.

Bjerregaard's impressive round included six birdies and an eagle, though a bogey on the penultimate hole prevented him from sharing the lead. He currently sits in a tie for second place with South Africa's Brandon Stone, just one stroke behind the French leader Félix Mory. For much of the round, Bjerregaard appeared poised to lead, but the late mistake shifted the standings.

This marks the first time the Kerteminde course hosts the Danish Golf Championship, an event that has been held in Denmark since 2014, with a brief interruption in 2020. The tournament attracts nearly all of Denmark's elite golfers, with Nicolai Højgaard being the notable absence as he competes in the PGA Tour playoffs.

Other Danish players are also competing, with Martin Leth Simonsen and Thorbjørn Olesen tied for 17th place, three strokes behind Bjerregaard. Rasmus Højgaard, Jacob Skov Olesen, Marcus Helligkilde, and John Axelsen are further back, tied for 35th. The field also includes two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson, who is tied for tenth place after the first round, and Swedish golfer Henrik Stenson.
