Luguelin Santos secured a silver medal in the men's 4x400m relay during his return to high-level competition at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026. Santos, an Olympic silver medalist, ran the second leg of the relay for the Dominican Republic team, which held the lead for most of the race before ultimately finishing second. The Dominican team clocked a time of 3:00.94, narrowly beaten by Puerto Rico. Venezuela took the bronze. This medal marks a significant comeback for Santos, who was suspended for three years in 2023 by the Athletics Integrity Unit for falsifying his age to compete in junior events. "We are not satisfied with what we have done. We must do more, but I understand there will be more opportunities to show that we are ready," Santos stated, reflecting on his performance. He described the silver medal as having "a special flavor" because it was won on home soil in the Dominican Republic, allowing him to compete in front of his own crowd. However, Santos also expressed disappointment with the low spectator turnout at the athletics events, noting the stadium was nearly empty. He recalled watching the 2003 Pan American Games on television, seeing a packed stadium, and contrasted it with the current lack of support for sports. "Support us, we come to give you a show.
