Dominican Republic Celebrates Record 150 Medals with Santo Domingo Caravan

Music, flags, and cheers filled the streets of Santo Domingo as the Dominican Republic celebrated its athletes' historic achievement of 150 medals at the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026. A celebratory caravan, themed "Somos Campeones Arriba RD" (We Are Champions, Go RD), wound through various neighborhoods, starting from the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.

Athletes, volunteers, and sports officials participated in the procession, which was met with enthusiastic crowds despite intermittent rain. Residents from areas like Villa Juana, Villa Agrícolas, and Ensanche Luperón lined the streets to salute the delegation, showcasing national pride in their performance. The event culminated with a concert at Parque Eugenio María de Hostos.

This year's medal haul of 150, comprising 46 gold, 37 silver, and 67 bronze, marks the Dominican Republic's most successful outing in the history of the Central American and Caribbean Games. It surpasses their previous record of 131 medals set in San Salvador in 2002.

Standout performances included Liranyi Alonso, who earned four gold medals in track events, and the mixed 4x400m relay team, featuring Marileidy Paulino, Anabel Medina, Erick Sánchez, and Christopher Melenciano, who clinched gold. The caravan served as a powerful display of national pride, honoring the dedication and success of the Dominican athletes.
