Luka Mesec: After 20 Years, It's Time for Radical Change in the City

Luka Mesec, co-coordinator of the Levica party, has announced his candidacy for mayor of Ljubljana in the upcoming local elections. He declared that his primary focus will be on making Ljubljana a city that its residents can afford.

Mesec stated at a press conference that after 20 years under the same mayor, it is time for a fundamental change in the city. He expressed concern that Ljubljana is becoming increasingly unaffordable, forcing young people to leave due to high housing prices. Families are seeking homes far from their workplaces or birthplaces, and the elderly are struggling with the rising cost of living.

"Ljubljana, which has been becoming a more beautiful city under Mayor Zoran Janković, must start becoming the best city to live in," Mesec asserted. He outlined key priorities, including accessible kindergartens, comprehensive long-term care services, efficient public transportation, well-maintained cycling paths, and clean air.

Several other candidates have already declared their intentions to run for mayor. These include the long-serving incumbent Zoran Janković, city councilors Aleš Primc and Jasmin Feratović, and former councilor Mihael Jarc. Online influencer Aleksandar Repić has also announced plans to gather signatures for his candidacy. Additionally, Urška Klakočar Zupančič and Anton Rop are forming a joint list, though their mayoral candidate has not yet been revealed.
