Luka Modrić's Former Teacher Recalls His Delicate Childhood and Doubts About His Physicality

A former teacher has shared her memories of a young Luka Modrić during his brief stint in hospitality training, recalling him as a "small, delicate child" from whom she never anticipated such extraordinary success.

During his vocational training at the renowned Maestral restaurant in Zadar's marina, Modrić's former cook, who also served as his teacher, expressed initial doubts about his physical suitability for the demanding role of a waiter. "Where did you bring him to me? He can't carry a tray," she recounted telling the person who brought him for training, admitting she thought he lacked the physical stamina for the job.

Luka was a small, delicate child from whom I honestly would never have expected such success. I told the person who brought him to me: 'Where did you bring him to me, he can't handle the physical strain?' I thought he couldn't even carry a tray, he definitely wasn't cut out to be a waiter.

However, she quickly added that despite her initial assessment, Modrić was a "very obedient and kind" student. His time in the hospitality industry was short-lived, as he left for Zagreb after his first year to pursue his burgeoning football career with Dinamo, continuing his education through evening classes.
