Lukashenko calls for rapid creation of a unified SCO digital space

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko used the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek to press for faster practical cooperation, with digital infrastructure and financial arrangements at the centre of his proposal.

He said regular contact among specialised government agencies had already been established, but urged officials to turn meetings into large-scale initiatives. “We expect the number of meetings to translate into quality and launch large-scale practical initiatives,” Lukashenko said, according to the First Pool media channel.

The Belarusian leader also gave firm backing to the rapid establishment of an SCO development bank. He said such an institution would add stability to the organisation’s economic ties and strengthen the region’s financial sovereignty.

Lukashenko welcomed steps to increase the share of national currencies in mutual settlements. He said this could help build resilience in the monetary systems of SCO countries against global challenges.

He argued that the rapid development of information technology had added a new digital dimension to the traditional system of cooperation. Belarus therefore supports the earliest possible creation of a unified digital space for the organisation, which he described as open and secure.
