Lula campaign demands equal treatment from Mendonça over Bolsonaro investigations

Lula’s reelection campaign is pressing Supreme Court Justice André Mendonça to apply the same standard of transparency to every investigation under his authority, not only to the case involving conversations between Alexandre de Moraes and banker Daniel Vorcaro.

A strategist for the Workers’ Party campaign said Mendonça could release those conversations, but would also need to disclose information from other cases. The campaign pointed to the financing of “Dark Horse,” a film about former president Jair Bolsonaro’s political career, as well as investigations into the relationships between former Rio de Janeiro governor Claudio Castro and former Federal District governor Ibaneis Rocha and Banco Master.

The campaign also cited deputy Nikolas Ferreira’s use of Vorcaro’s private jets. One Lula supporter argued that Mendonça effectively protects Bolsonaro’s political camp by withholding broader information and is helping shape the election.

The justice is viewed by the campaign as a political ally of Flávio Bolsonaro, who could use the disclosures to attack Lula without presenting concrete proposals on social policy, the economy or security. Lula is considering expressing that view in a public address, although his campaign is still assessing the wording and tone.
