Lula says everyone under suspicion must be investigated and urges PGR and STF to resolve Banco Master case

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has broken his public silence on the Banco Master investigation, calling on Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court and the prosecutor general’s office to lead a process that restores confidence in the case.

“Our democracy cannot become hostage to selective leaks,” Lula said in an institutional video recorded in his office at the Planalto Palace. He urged the president of the Supreme Court and the Federal Prosecutor General’s Office to ensure the integrity of the investigations, describing the moment as serious.

The statement came after the release of a Federal Police report showing an exchange of messages between former Banco Master banker Daniel Vorcaro and an interlocutor identified as Justice Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme Court. It marked Lula’s first public comment on the matter.

Lula said everyone under suspicion must face investigation. “It is clear that our political and judicial system needs deep reforms. It is essential that everyone be investigated, without protecting anyone,” he said.

He also called on public figures to honor their duties and put their commitment to public service ahead of personal interests. The government distributed the recording as official government content on Thursday.
