Lula vows no foreign interference in Brazil elections, criticizes Milei

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has firmly declared his government's stance against foreign interference in the nation's elections. Speaking at a convention of the Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB) that formalized their support for his candidacy, Lula asserted that his administration would not permit external meddling.

"As long as I am president, no one from outside will interfere in Brazilian elections," Lula stated, reinforcing his commitment to national sovereignty. He also addressed his relationship with U.S. President Donald Trump, emphasizing a desire for peace. "I don't want Trump as my enemy. He sometimes wants to fight with me, I won't fight with him, not even with a club," Lula said, indicating a preference for de-escalation even if provoked.

Lula also commented on recent statements made by Argentine President Javier Milei during a political event in Brazil. Milei had criticized the Workers' Party (PT) administration and members of the Supreme Court. Lula expressed his disapproval of Milei's actions, referring to them as a "pataquada" (a blunder or foolish act), but stated he would refrain from a direct exchange, prioritizing state-level relations over personal disputes.

During the event, Lula praised Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, who was once again confirmed by the PSB as his running mate. Lula highlighted Alckmin's loyalty, capability, and honesty as crucial elements that provide assurance against political instability, even suggesting a safeguard against potential coups.

The PSB's endorsement marks the second party to officially support Lula's re-election bid, following the PDT's earlier confirmation. Lula's candidacy is set to be officially confirmed at the PT's national convention.
