Lyngby withstand Viborg pressure to claim their first win of the season

Lyngby Boldklub finally secured its first points of the new Superliga season by beating Viborg 2-0 away on Friday night.

Viborg controlled most of the opening half-hour and created several chances, but the final pass or decisive action repeatedly let the hosts down. Lyngby then struck against the run of play after a fine combination ended with Oskar Buur setting up Ísak Thorvaldsson.

The goal did not change the pattern of the match. Viborg continued to have most of the ball, but Lyngby’s defensive organization limited the hosts to efforts from distance and difficult angles.

Lyngby rarely threatened around Viborg’s penalty area, but its attacks carried danger. After an hour, Simon Colyn was brought down in the box and converted the resulting penalty to double the lead.

Lyngby had previously dropped points late in two matches this season. This time, the team held on. The defeat ended Viborg’s run of three consecutive wins, including a 4-0 victory over FC Copenhagen, and left only Sønderjyske and AGF still without a league win.
