Lyon: Mother arrested, suspected of fatally poisoning her three-year-old daughter

A 35-year-old woman in Lyon, France, is facing serious charges after her three-year-old daughter died earlier this week. The public prosecutor's office in Lyon has opened a judicial investigation into allegations of "poisoning and administration of a harmful substance to a minor under 15" and abandonment.

A criminal committal warrant has been requested for the mother, who was due to be presented to a judge on Thursday for potential indictment. The specific substance administered to the child has not been disclosed, and the circumstances surrounding the death are still under investigation.

According to the newspaper Le Progrès, the mother allegedly gave medication to her daughter while they were in their family apartment in Lyon's 8th arrondissement. The suspect herself alerted authorities after finding her child "unconscious." Emergency services attempted resuscitation efforts but were unsuccessful, and the child was pronounced dead at the scene.
