Mac Allister: Argentina aims to defend jersey and country in World Cup semifinal

Argentina midfielder Alexis Mac Allister stressed the team's singular focus on performing their best in the World Cup semifinal against England, emphasizing their commitment to defending their nation's jersey.

"We take it as a football match, as a World Cup semifinal. We understand everything that is behind it and all the history, that is something we cannot change," Mac Allister told reporters. "What we can do is defend the jersey and our country in the best way on the field, that is what we have always done and what we want to do again. Hopefully, it will turn out in the best way."

Mac Allister, who scored in the quarter-finals against Switzerland, is playing in a slightly different role compared to his usual position at Liverpool. He credited clear communication with coach Lionel Scaloni for helping him adapt. "He is like that with everyone, especially when we do post-match videos, we try to exchange many opinions. He is willing to listen, and we appreciate it," Mac Allister said.

The midfielder acknowledged the coach's experience and understanding of what representing Argentina means. "We understand that it is because of his experience, he is Argentine, he has been with the national team, he knows what it means, and in the end, we all want the best for the team. From our side, we are grateful because sometimes it is complicated to see," he added.
