Macri calls himself 'admirer' of Paraguay for strengthening institutions and fostering trust

Former Argentine President Mauricio Macri has declared himself a "great admirer" of Paraguay, commending the nation for its institutional advancements over recent decades. He emphasized that strong institutions are the bedrock for fostering trust, attracting investment, and driving economic development.

During a keynote address in Luque, alongside Paraguayan President Santiago Peña, Macri stated, "I am a great admirer of what you have achieved." He elaborated that Paraguay has taken a "gigantic step forward" in constructing and reinforcing its institutional framework, which he described as the most dynamic force in society. This strength, he added, builds the confidence necessary for investment, development, employment, and opportunities.

Macri views Paraguay's current standing not as an endpoint, but as a "very solid starting point" for continued growth. President Peña echoed this optimism, urging his compatriots to believe in Paraguay's capacity to become one of the world's most prosperous nations. He pointed to the country's ample resources, including water, energy, and fertile land, as key assets.

Paraguay's economy has shown robust growth, expanding 6.6% in 2025, 4.2% in 2024, and 4.7% in 2023, according to the Central Bank. The bank recently raised its GDP growth forecast for the current year to 4.5% and lowered the inflation projection to 3.3%. In 2025, Paraguay approved over 140 investment projects valued at approximately $699 million.
