Madiun statistics office opens complaint desk for residents challenging economic data

Residents of Madiun who believe their government-assigned economic decile is inaccurate can now file an appeal directly with the city’s Statistics Agency.

The agency has opened a complaint desk to help people complete forms for updating and challenging their data. Abdul Azis, head of the Madiun City Statistics Agency, said residents could come to the office if their classification did not match their actual economic situation.

Around 10 households visit the office each day to submit objections, Azis said. Many believe their assigned decile is too high because their financial circumstances remain modest or severely limited. Residents can also check their classification through the Ministry of Social Affairs’ Cek Bansos channel, the SIKS-NG application, or operators at village and urban ward offices.

Residents of Madiun City who want to challenge or change their decile data because they believe it is inaccurate can come directly to the BPS office. Staff will help them fill out several data-update forms for the appeal.

Azis stressed that a decile does not directly determine whether someone is rich or poor. It represents a statistical grouping based on a family’s social and economic characteristics, with data updated every three months.

The latest update process asks for more detail than before. Kiki Indraswari, an SIKS-NG administrator in Kejuron urban ward, said residents must provide information not only about basic household details, but also food, electricity and other spending, as well as housing conditions.

Older residents and people unfamiliar with technology may struggle to complete the process on their own. Local offices say they can help, and can coordinate with community social workers when elderly residents need assistance at home.
