Maféo: 'I will give every last drop of sweat to defend this jersey' for Olympiacos

Pablo Maféo is officially a player for Olympiacos, with the club announcing the signing of the 28-year-old right-back from Mallorca on Friday. Maféo's arrival marks the second transfer for the Piraeus-based team during the summer window, following the return of Kostas Fortounis.

"The truth is that I am excited to be in the best team in Greece and I can't wait to start playing and meet my teammates and the fans," Maféo stated. "When I was informed about Olympiacos' offer, I felt joy, happiness, and emotion that a team of this magnitude was interested in me. It is what any footballer wishes for, to come to a great club with the obligation to win titles."

Maféo explained that he didn't need much convincing, having spoken with Darko and recalling conversations with Ortega, who played with him in the Argentine national team two years prior. "I already knew the magnitude of this club," he said. "Two years ago, I was with Ortega in the Argentine National Team and he told me how great this club is. I didn't need anything else to be convinced to make the decision."

He also acknowledged the passionate Olympiacos fanbase, noting their deep connection to the team. "I know that the fans of Olympiacos live it in a very beautiful way and bond with the team. This gives you more motivation in the game. So it is a very important element of the club," Maféo observed. He described himself as a player who plays with intensity and promises to give his all. "I don't stop fighting and giving 100%. I will give every last drop of sweat to defend this jersey. I am very happy to be here. I want our fans to believe that this year we will do beautiful things. Let them show it in the stands, as we will show it on the field, because together we are much better."
