Magnitude 4.0 earthquake rattles Ica, Peru

A magnitude 4.0 earthquake shook Ica, Peru, on the night of July 14. The tremor occurred at 11:07 p.m. local time, with its epicenter located 90 kilometers southwest of the city at a depth of 31 kilometers, according to the Peruvian Geophysical Institute (IGP).

This seismic event followed another earthquake of magnitude 4.6 that registered just under two hours earlier, at 9:40 p.m. Its epicenter was 108 kilometers southwest of Ica, at a depth of 34 kilometers. The proximity of these two quakes highlights the seismic activity in the region.

In response to these events, Peruvian authorities, including the National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci), are urging residents to remain calm and be prepared. They emphasize the importance of identifying safe zones both inside and outside homes and maintaining emergency kits. These kits should include essential items such as hygiene products, a first-aid kit, non-perishable food, water, communication tools like a battery-powered radio and flashlight, and copies of important documents.
