Magnitude 7.0 earthquake hits NTT, Indonesia, with tsunami warning issued

A powerful magnitude 7.0 earthquake jolted Indonesia's Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) province early Saturday morning, prompting an immediate tsunami early warning from the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

The tremor occurred at 04:58 Western Indonesian Time (WIB). BMKG's official account reported the earthquake's parameters, specifying its location at 8.33 degrees South latitude and 121.32 degrees East longitude, with a shallow depth of 10 kilometers. The agency's alert warned of potential tsunami impacts in the affected region.

Residents in areas like Manggarai Barat described experiencing the earthquake intensely. "The shaking was very strong," said Petrus, a local resident, conveying the immediate impact felt on the ground. The full extent of any damage or casualties is still being assessed following the significant seismic event.
