Five hectares of Kuningan landfill engulfed by fire, blaze continues to spread

A significant fire continues to rage at the Ciniru landfill (TPAS) in Kuningan, Indonesia, with the blaze spreading across an estimated five hectares. The fire, first detected early Wednesday morning, has proven difficult to contain, entering its second day on Thursday.

Strong winds and the prevailing dry weather conditions of the dry season have significantly fueled the fire, causing it to grow rapidly. Initial reports indicated the fire started around 4:00 AM local time on Wednesday.

The area that has burned is estimated to be around five hectares.

Joint efforts involving approximately 200 personnel from various agencies are underway to combat the flames. These teams are divided into several units, working at multiple fire points spread across the northern and southern sections of the landfill. To aid in the firefighting operations, drone technology, including thermal imaging, is being used to map hot spots and guide suppression efforts.

Firefighting operations on Thursday commenced at 8:30 AM and continued until 5:30 PM, followed by monitoring activities starting at 7:00 PM. Further containment and suppression efforts are scheduled for Friday, pending a joint team briefing and evaluation. The total area affected is estimated to be around five hectares.
