Magong High School DF Chinese Orchestra to perform at National Taichung Theater

The DF Chinese Orchestra from Magong High School is set to embark on a tour starting in August, aiming to convey the rich cultural heritage and vibrant youth energy of Penghu through their music. This tour represents a significant step for the young artists, showcasing their dedication and talent on a national stage.

A key highlight of the tour will be their performance on August 14th at the National Taichung Theater. This event marks a major milestone for the orchestra, as it will be their debut performance at a national-level music hall in central Taiwan. Having previously performed at national venues in Taipei and Kaohsiung, this concert in Taichung completes their presence in the island's three major regions, symbolizing a new chapter for Penghu's youth arts scene.

Founded in 2005, the DF Orchestra began as a group of friends passionate about traditional Chinese music. Under the leadership of Director Xu Sheng-wen, the ensemble has expanded to include modern musical elements like piano and violin, growing into a group of dozens of musicians. They have become a notable performing group, previously appearing at the Taipei National Theater in 2022 and the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) in 2024. They are also a featured performer during Penghu's International Fireworks Festival.

The upcoming tour will feature approximately 80 members. The "Hu Qing" concert series begins on August 2nd at the Penghu Performing Arts Center, followed by performances at the Puli Arts Center on August 12th and the National Taichung Theater on August 14th. The ensemble will be led by German-based conductor Zhang Yu'an, with erhu virtuoso Jiang Bing-jun as the featured soloist. The program includes original compositions such as "Waves Flowing Unendingly," "Hu Jing Chen Cheng," and "Yu Lang Tian Qing," as well as a new erhu concerto titled "Sea Beacon Fire" by composer Ren Zhong, inspired by Penghu's history.

Penghu County Magistrate Chen Yu-jen arranged for the orchestra to meet with Taichung Deputy Mayor Cheng Chao-hsin to discuss the performance and future cultural collaborations. Chen emphasized that Penghu possesses not only stunning ocean views but also deep cultural heritage and talented young individuals. He noted that the orchestra's progression to major stages across Taiwan is a testament to their long-term efforts and perseverance, highlighting the growing recognition of Penghu's artistic energy.
