Maiquetía Airport Details New Travel Procedures from Temporary Terminals

Maiquetía International Airport is set to resume commercial flights on September 1, operating from temporary facilities while structural repairs continue following the June 24 earthquakes.

The airport's authority, IAIM, released a video detailing the new passenger procedures. Travelers will enter through a specific access point at the national terminal, proceeding via a ramp to designated operational areas. Here, they will undergo security checks by the Bolivarian National Guard and airline pre-check-in processes before heading to airline counters for final check-in and baggage handling.

Following these steps, passengers will clear immigration and have their carry-on luggage inspected. They can then wait in designated lounges until boarding is announced. The temporary terminals are equipped with Wi-Fi, restrooms, medical services, vending machines, waiting areas, and charging stations. The international departures area spans approximately 4,300 square meters, accommodating up to 780 people, while the national flights area can handle up to 480 passengers.

A significant change from normal operations will be the method of boarding aircraft. Instead of using jet bridges, passengers will be transported to the planes by bus. The provisional system includes four separate areas: two for departures and two for arrivals, with clear separation between domestic and international passengers. The IAIM confirmed the September 1 restart date for both domestic and international flights, a date adjusted from an earlier plan for August 24. Passengers are advised to contact their airlines directly to confirm flight schedules and related logistics.
