Major NASA Site in Spain Hit by Wildfire

Wildfires raging in Spain have prompted NASA to evacuate one of its critical deep space communications facilities, potentially affecting its ability to contact spacecraft exploring the cosmos. The Madrid Deep Space Communications Complex (MDSCC), located in Robledo approximately 37 miles west of Madrid, was directly impacted by the blaze.

A NASA spokesperson confirmed that the wildfire had passed through the MDSCC site. While the agency stated that all personnel were "safely evacuated," the extent of any potential damage to the facility will be assessed once it is deemed safe to return. The MDSCC is a vital component of NASA's Deep Space Network, which enables communication with probes operating in distant regions of space.
