Major traffic jams and delays plague Slovenian roads, Karavanke Tunnel approach heavily congested

Slovenia is experiencing widespread traffic congestion and delays on various road sections, including major highways and routes in and around popular tourist destinations. The Gorenjska highway is particularly affected, with a three-kilometer queue forming before the Karavanke Tunnel leading to Austria. The situation is reportedly even worse on the Austrian side of the tunnel, where traffic is occasionally halted.

Authorities recommend drivers on the Gorenjska highway heading towards Kranjska Gora to exit at Jesenice vzhod or Lipce. The Štajerska highway is also heavily congested, with delays reported between Slovenske Konjice and the Golo Rebro Tunnel towards Ljubljana, as well as between Dramlje and the Pletovarje Tunnel towards Maribor.

Further disruptions are occurring on roads such as Lesce-Bled, Lucija-Izola, Dragonja-Koper, Šmarje-Dragonja, and Izola-Strunjan. At Valeta, traffic is being managed with alternating one-way flow due to a traffic accident. Additionally, broken-down vehicles are contributing to the delays in several locations across the country.
