Makinde proceeds on leave August, transfers power to deputy

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has officially received the green light from the State House of Assembly to commence his annual leave. The legislative body approved his request during a plenary session, paving the way for his Deputy, Adebayo Lawal, to assume gubernatorial responsibilities during Makinde's absence.

The governor's leave is scheduled to begin on August 10 and conclude on September 11, 2026. Following the leave period, Makinde is expected to resume his official duties on September 14, 2026. The approval followed the consideration of a formal letter submitted by the governor, adhering to constitutional provisions that mandate governors to notify the state legislature of any planned absence from office.

During Thursday's plenary, presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Muhammed Fadeyi, lawmakers deliberated on the governor's request. The motion for approval was unanimously passed, with the legislators expressing their confidence in Deputy Governor Adebayo Lawal's capacity to ensure the smooth and uninterrupted functioning of the state government throughout Governor Makinde's leave.
