Malaysia Airlines pilot caught with drugs at Jakarta airport

An off-duty Malaysia Airlines pilot was apprehended at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta after customs officials discovered a significant quantity of illicit drugs in his luggage. The arrest occurred on July 28 when the pilot, identified as MSO, arrived from Kuala Lumpur.

During a routine X-ray scan, suspicious items in the pilot's baggage prompted a thorough search. Officers uncovered 14 large packages containing a total of 70,114 ecstasy pills, weighing 25.2 kilograms. Additionally, 4 grams of methamphetamine were found in his carry-on luggage. A subsequent urine test confirmed the pilot had used drugs, leading authorities to believe he may have been under the influence during his flight.

During questioning, the pilot confessed to being instructed to transport the drugs to Jakarta in exchange for 50,000 Malaysian ringgit, approximately $12,000. Police revealed this was the third instance of drug trafficking for the pilot. Investigators also discovered that the pilot was carrying a bottle of clean urine, intended to be used to pass random drug tests, stating, "I would have used this if there was a random test."
