Malaysia Aspires to Host World Cup, Deputy PM Says

Malaysia harbors ambitions of hosting the FIFA World Cup, a dream articulated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Witnessing the enthusiastic cheers of thousands of football fans at a large screen viewing event for the 2026 World Cup final in Bangi, Hamidi expressed his hope that Malaysia could one day become a host nation.

"God willing, one day we aspire to make Malaysia the host of the World Cup," Hamidi stated during his address at the event. He further added that the dream would be even sweeter if the Malaysian national team, known as Harimau Malaya, could also qualify to participate, bringing pride to the nation.

The event in Bangi Square 2 attracted approximately 7,000 football enthusiasts from various walks of life. Beyond the live screening of the final match, attendees enjoyed a range of activities, including a "Borak Bola" (Football Talk) session with national football legends like Datuk Zainal Abidin Hassan, Farizal Marlias, and Zaquan Adha. Lucky draws and football trivia contests were also part of the festivities. Following the match, the program continued with "Semarak Subuh" (Spirit of Dawn) prayers, blending sportsmanship, community spirit, and spiritual values.
