Malaysia: BN-PH Talks Open for Negeri Sembilan Unity Government

Negotiations between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) to preserve the unity government in Negeri Sembilan are still possible, according to BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the door for discussions has not closed, even though PH had previously indicated a desire to contest the upcoming state elections independently. "We are prepared to face the elections in Negeri Sembilan, even though it is the decision of the state government administration through the component parties within PH," Zahid stated. He added that BN is very open to not only continuing the unity government but also to further discussions. The Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly was dissolved following the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir. Earlier reports indicated that the seat distribution among PH component parties was finalized, with a decision to contest all 36 state seats. Zahid noted that it is still too early to shut down any negotiation avenues with any party within the PH coalition.
