Malaysia Needs New National Consensus to Unite People, Says Opposition Leader

Malaysia requires a new "National Consensus" to foster unity among its people, who come from varied backgrounds, regions, and political affiliations. Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin believes that the spirit of unity demonstrated by Prophet Muhammad in establishing a cohesive society and civilization should serve as a guide for Malaysia's current challenges.

This is a great lesson that is very relevant for Malaysia. Diversity is our strength and all parties must find common ground for a shared future. Differences are not an excuse for division.

Hamzah stated that the commemoration of Maulidur Rasul is an opportunity to reflect on the Prophet's struggles in upholding Islam and building a nation. He highlighted the Prophet's success in transforming division into brotherhood, enmity into understanding, and a jahiliyyah society into a unified ummah guided by faith, values, and a clear purpose.

Just as the Prophet Muhammad succeeded in uniting the ummah through shared faith, values, and beliefs, Malaysia also needs a New National Consensus that unites us on Shared Goals, Shared Prosperity, and Humane Governance.

He called for Malaysia to adopt a similar approach, uniting under shared objectives, collective prosperity, and humane governance. This unifying effort, he explained, must bridge divides between people of different backgrounds, connect regions, and consolidate political strengths that have been separated by differences. Hamzah expressed hope that by internalizing the lessons from the Prophet's struggles, Malaysia can build a more prosperous, dignified, and respected future.
