Malaysia pioneers professional diploma for halal logistics talent

Politeknik Seberang Perai (PSP) is set to become the nation's leading institution for professional talent development in the halal logistics sector. The polytechnic will introduce its inaugural professional diploma program, the Diploma Profesional Teknologi Logistik dan Halal (DPTLH), under the Department of Polytechnic and Community College Education.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim officially launched the program during the Penang International Halal Expo (PIHEX) and Penang Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Gathering (HUBPP). Dr. Shamsuri Abdullah, Director-General of Polytechnic and Community College Education, highlighted the Ministry of Higher Education's commitment to strengthening Professional Technical Education (PTE) through responsive programs like DPTLH.

"This DPTLH program not only strengthens the development of high-skilled human capital but also manifests the implementation of Iltizam 1 KPT, which is to empower PTE through close cooperation between educational institutions and industry," Abdullah stated. He added that PSP's selection as a pioneer institution is expected to serve as a benchmark for developing industry-driven professional diploma programs, supporting Malaysia's ambition to be a global halal and logistics hub.

The DPTLH program, designed as an industry-driven professional training initiative, was developed with input from 31 strategic industry partners to ensure its curriculum meets current halal logistics sector needs. The flexible program spans three months or 192 hours of learning. Supported by the Halal and Logistics Technology Excellence Centre (Haltec), the DPTLH covers four core modules: Smart Warehouse, Digital Apps Development, Smart Drone Technology, and Halal Executive. Participants can also earn industry competency certificates from strategic partners to boost their employability.

PSP plans to commence the first intake for the program in September, with subsequent intakes based on industry demand. The program is open to individuals aged 18 and above with basic literacy skills, particularly targeting youth in the Permatang Pauh parliamentary constituency and the B40 group. This initiative aims to broaden access to quality professional education and training, thereby increasing employment opportunities within the halal logistics sector.
