Malaysia to Publish Full Tabung Haji Inquiry Report, Says PM Anwar

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia has affirmed that the complete report from the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into Tabung Haji, the national haj savings fund, will be made public without any redactions. This commitment ensures transparency regarding the findings and recommendations concerning the fund's past operations.

Anwar stated that the Cabinet has agreed to publish the entire report, including all its recommendations and the processes undertaken during the investigation. He stressed that no part of the report would be omitted, allowing the Malaysian public, particularly Muslims, a full opportunity to understand the issues. The investigation primarily focused on events leading up to 2014, with Bank Negara issuing early warnings in 2017, followed by subsequent reviews and requests for extended inquiries.

The Prime Minister reiterated his stance that any individuals found responsible for losses incurred by Tabung Haji must be thoroughly investigated and, if necessary, prosecuted. This action, he believes, will serve as a crucial lesson to prevent future mismanagement and ensure accountability. He also noted that the report's findings would not negatively impact his relationship with his deputy, Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, as ministers from Barisan Nasional also agreed to the full disclosure.

Anwar highlighted that there is a shared determination within the government to clarify the report's contents. The publication aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the circumstances surrounding Tabung Haji's financial challenges and to reinforce confidence in the institution's future management.
