Malaysia U-18 Hockey Team Finishes Fourth at Asia Cup After Pakistan Loss

Malaysia's Under-18 (U-18) national hockey team narrowly missed a podium finish at the U-18 Asia Cup, succumbing to a 3-0 defeat against Pakistan in the third-place playoff match held in Kakamigahara, Japan.

Pakistan secured their victory with early goals from Uzair Ahmad Qureshi via a penalty corner in the third minute and Haider Asam doubling the lead 20 minutes later. Adeel sealed the win with a field goal just a minute before the final whistle.

The Malaysian squad, coached by Mohd Harfizi Baharom, could not match their performance from the previous year, where they secured a third-place finish. This year's outcome marks a disappointing end to their campaign.

Coach Mohd Harfizi accepted full responsibility for the team's performance throughout the tournament. "I am prepared to accept any decision that the management and committee will make after the evaluation," he stated. He also expressed gratitude to the players, staff, families, and supporters for their unwavering backing. "To the players, your journey is still long. Use this defeat as a lesson to keep working hard and return as more mature and stronger players in the future," he added.
