Malaysian 4x100m relay team eyes national record after Open win

Malaysia's men's 4x100m relay quartet has shown strong potential to break the national record, having come within 0.13 seconds of it while securing gold at the Malaysian Open Athletics Championships. The team, comprising Muhammad Azeem Fahmi, Danish Iftikhar Muhammad Roslee, Pengiran Aidil Auf Hajam, and Mohamad Armin Zahryl Abdul Latif, achieved a time of 39.16 seconds despite being assembled less than five days before the competition. National sprint star Muhammad Azeem Fahmi expressed high confidence that the team can surpass the existing national record of 39.03 seconds. He believes this can be achieved at the upcoming Asian U23 Championships in Ordos, China, scheduled from July 9 to 12. "I am very positive that one day if we are paired together again in any competition after this, God willing, the national record will not last long," Azeem stated. Azeem highlighted the team's camaraderie, noting that the athletes are close in age and have a history of competing together since their school days. The focus, he said, is on executing each race and seizing every opportunity. "I am very positive about what we will achieve in the future. God willing, the same faces will run at the Asian U23 Athletics Championships, and I hope we will all do our best in the individual events," he added. However, Danish Iftikhar Muhammad Roslee will be replaced in future competitions due to age regulations. As Danish was born in 2007, he does not meet the criteria for athletes born between 2004 and 2006 required by the competition rules. The national record for the men's 4x100m relay is currently held by Aliff Iman Fahimi, Jonathan Nyepa, Aidil Auf, and Danish from the 2025 SEA Games.
