Malaysian actress Lydia Ibtisam dies at 45 after autoimmune disease complications

Malaysian actress Lydia Ibtisam has died at the age of 45 following complications from an autoimmune disease. The actress, widely recognized for her starring role in the 2004 interactive drama series Impian Illyana, passed away on Thursday, July 23.

Her death came just a day after her friend, singer Elliza Razak, shared on social media that Lydia was in critical condition and urged fans to pray for her recovery. According to Razak, Ibtisam had been living with an autoimmune disease for eight years, which had led to her internal organs being attacked.

Lydia's husband informed the Malaysian news outlet Harian Metro that the disease had attacked her kidneys and that viruses were present in her stomach, lungs, and blood. She underwent surgery on Monday and remained in critical condition until her passing around 4 p.m. on Thursday.

Ibtisam was laid to rest in George Town, Penang, on Friday morning. Beyond her acting career, she also released music during her lifetime. She is survived by her husband and two children.
