Malaysian pair falls short in Malaysia Masters final

Malaysian men's doubles pair Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Mohd Rumsani were defeated in the final of the Malaysia Masters 2026 by Denmark's Daniel Lundgaard and Mads Vestergaard. The world No. 9 Malaysian duo succumbed to the world No. 18 Danish pair with a score of 16-21, 17-21 in a match lasting 42 minutes at the Unifi Arena in Bukit Jalil.

Nur Izzuddin acknowledged that the Danish opponents played a near-perfect game, applying pressure from the outset. He stated that their own slow tactical adjustments contributed to the loss. "The opponents read our game well, and we were slow to change tactics," Izzuddin told reporters after the match.

Looking ahead, the pair is prioritizing recovery before shifting their focus to the upcoming Singapore Open. While Olympic qualifiers are on the horizon for next year, Izzuddin emphasized their current focus on improving their performance and securing titles, believing that strong play will naturally elevate their world rankings.

This defeat brings the head-to-head record between the two pairs to a 3-3 tie. As runners-up, Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin received US$19,000 (RM75,390) and a silver medal. The event also saw victories for Chinese pairs Chen Fan Shu Tian-Luo Xu Min in women's doubles and Gao Jia Xuan-Wei Ya Xin in mixed doubles, while China's Li Shi Feng and Thailand's Ratchanok Intanon won the men's and women's singles titles, respectively.
