Malaysian Pair Pearly-Thinaah Advance at China Open Badminton Championship

Malaysia's top women's doubles pair, Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah, have secured a spot in the round of 16 at the China Open badminton championship in Jiangsu, China. The world No. 5 duo defeated Japan's Ririna Hiramoto and Kokona Ishikawa, ranked 29th globally, in a swift 32-minute match with scores of 21-16 and 21-12. Thinaah, playing against Hiramoto-Ishikawa for the first time, acknowledged the young Japanese pair's strong performance but credited their own focus on strategy and shot quality for the victory. "I think the Japanese pair played very well, but we were more focused on maintaining our strategy and shot quality. I think that's what helped us in today's match," Thinaah told BWF representatives. Both players noted challenging court conditions due to significant wind, which they described as a factor that "made things a bit difficult." However, they emphasized that managing these conditions was key to their success. "Yes, I think the wind situation was indeed challenging, but every player goes through the same thing. It depends on how you manage the match on court," Thinaah added. Tan, who is still regaining her top form after a back injury, admitted she is working to find her best rhythm on court. "Thank you to Thinaah for always covering me, so I can do whatever I want on court because I know I have a partner by my side," Tan said, confirming her fitness level is around 70-80 percent. She expressed happiness with the win but aims for continuous improvement. The Malaysian pair is expected to face either Japan's Rui Hirokami-Sayaka Hobara or Ukraine's Polina Buhrova-Yevheniia Kantemyr in the next round.
