Malaysian pair Pearly-Thinaah eliminated from Singapore Open; Sze Fei-Izzuddin advances

Malaysia's top women's doubles pair, Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah, suffered a surprising defeat at the Singapore Open Badminton Championships, falling to the world No. 105 duo Benyapa Aimsaard and Nuntakarn Aimsaard. The world No. 2 pair lost in straight sets, 16-21, 19-21, in just 37 minutes.

This marked Pearly-Thinaah's return to competition after a month-long absence due to Pearly's recovery from a back injury. The loss now puts their head-to-head record against the Aimsaard sisters at 2-1. Pearly appeared to still be affected by her injury during the match.

In contrast, the Malaysian men's doubles pair Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Mohd Rumsani secured a spot in the quarterfinals. They defeated their compatriots Arif Junaidi and Yap Roy King in a three-set match, with scores of 23-21, 16-21, 21-8. Sze Fei-Izzuddin, ranked world No. 8, will face a tough challenge in the next round against the third-ranked Indonesian pair Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri.
