Malaysian Pilgrims Safe in Tibet Amidst Nepal Border Floods

A group of 56 pilgrims, comprising 39 Malaysians, four Singaporeans, and three Canadians, has been confirmed safe in Tibet. The group, led by Malaysian Everest summiter Datuk N. Mohanadas, was on their way to perform the Kailash Kora, a traditional circumambulation of Mount Kailash.

Mohanadas reported that their travel route has fortunately remained unaffected by the sudden heavy rainfall, flash floods, and resulting casualties occurring along the Nepal-Tibet border. "We realized the sudden heavy rainfall, flash floods, and loss of life at the Nepal-Tibet border. Fortunately, our group and the route we took were not affected, and we continued our journey safely," he told Bernama.

The pilgrims have commenced their three-day journey around the sacred mountain. This news brings relief following earlier reports that 55 Malaysian citizens in the Rasuwa district of Nepal were unaccounted for due to the severe flooding.

The Malaysian Embassy in Kathmandu had been working to contact the missing individuals, gathering information from family members, travel agencies, and other relevant sources. The confirmation of the Kailash-bound group's safety provides a positive update amidst the concerning reports from the flood-affected areas.
