Malaysian Pilot Arrested for Drug Smuggling at Jakarta Airport

Indonesian authorities arrested a Malaysian Airlines pilot at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Tuesday for alleged drug smuggling. The joint operation by the National Police's Criminal Investigation Unit and the Customs and Excise Office at Terminal 3 led to the discovery of 14 large packages and one small package of methamphetamine hidden in the suspect's luggage.

Mohd Saufi bin Othman, the pilot, is also suspected of acting as a courier for ecstasy. During the arrest, officers found a bottle containing urine, which is believed to have been intended to deceive drug tests. The arrest highlights ongoing efforts by Indonesian authorities to combat drug trafficking.

Malaysia Airlines acknowledged the arrest and stated its respect for the ongoing legal proceedings in Indonesia. The airline pledged full cooperation with the local authorities during their investigation, emphasizing its commitment to upholding legal standards.
