Malaysian shipowners urge broader tax exemptions ahead of new maritime law

The Malaysian Shipowners' Association (MASA) is calling on the government to consider extending tax exemptions under Section 54A of the Income Tax Act 1967 to all types of ships registered, owned, or operated by Malaysian shipping companies. MASA believes this broader exemption should encompass commercial vessels, offshore support vessels, tugboats, dredgers, and other craft supporting the nation's maritime value chain.
