Mali's Defence Minister killed in car bomb attack as army clashes with rebels

Mali is reeling from a devastating series of coordinated attacks that claimed the life of Defence Minister Sadio Camara and members of his family, alongside escalating clashes between the army and rebel groups. The synchronized assaults, carried out by the Tuareg-led Azawad Liberation Front (FLA) coalition and the jihadist Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM), targeted multiple locations, including the junta stronghold of Kita, outside Bamako, where the minister's home was bombed. The aim of the attackers was not to seize and control cities, but to carry out coordinated actions in order to at least capture Kidal, which is a rather powerful symbol.
