Mambo Queen Grace Chang Dies at 93; Brigitte Lin Shares Final Memory

Grace Chang, the legendary Hong Kong actress and singer known as the "Mambo Queen," has died at the age of 93. Her passing was mourned by many in the entertainment industry, including actress Brigitte Lin, who shared a heartfelt tribute.

Chang was a prominent figure during Hong Kong's golden age of cinema, excelling in singing, acting, and dancing. She rose to fame with her role in the classic film "Mambo Girl," which cemented her image as the iconic "Mambo Girl" and ushered in a golden era for Chinese song-and-dance films.

Brigitte Lin shared a touching memory of her final encounter with Chang. She recalled that Chang, who loved Peking Opera, had not attended performances for some time. When Lin visited her at home, Chang was semi-conscious in her wheelchair. To cheer her up, Lin sang two Peking Opera tunes, but Chang showed little reaction.

Lin then remembered that a caregiver suggested singing "Can't Tell You How Happy I Am," a famous song from Chang's film "Golden Rose." As Lin and two caregivers sang and performed a cha-cha dance in front of Chang, her eyes immediately opened with a spark, and she smiled with satisfaction. This moment, Lin said, was her last memory of the beloved star.
