At a celebration event at City Hall, Mamdani, sporting a Knicks jersey, declared that the team embodied the quintessential New Yorker's approach: finding a way to win when told something is impossible.

He recalled a pivotal moment in Game 4, where the Knicks trailed by 20 points with just over nine minutes remaining. Mamdani noted that while "data analysts, bookmakers, pundits" calculated a 99.6% probability for the Spurs to win that game and tie the series, the Knicks thrived in the "0.4%" where others gave up. This resilience, he argued, is what defines New Yorkers and the team.

Earlier, coach Mike Brown had emphasized the team's "collective commitment" and "sacrifice," while Finals MVP Jalen Brunson thanked the Knicks for their belief in him.
